Before & After: Decorating Around A TV

IMG_6869

The TV is often the center of attention in almost every home. In most cases it just sits on a table and looks quite boring. I decided to decorate around it, make it stand out and draw in more attention without looking over done.

I know you must be wondering why I disappeared for several months. One of my plans this year was to blog often and do more makeovers but it wasn’t long before I was reminded that God had other plans. I started to feel sick and found out I was pregnant with our second baby. To be honest I was frustrated because I had a lot of “cool” plans of my own and didn’t want any “distraction”.  In no time, terrible morning sickness set in and spent about 4 months sleeping on my couch all day. Today I have a gorgeous baby girl and she also came with greater determination to chase my dreams.  With that said, how about we move on..

INDOOR PLANTS

I love indoor plants from tiny to huge potted ones like below. I figured since looking at the TV for hours can be exhausting to the eyes, bringing in some green plants will relax the eyes and bring in life to the home.

FLOATING SHELVES

Floating shelves are so easy to install and literally float in the air due to their hidden bracket design. They work well in bathrooms, laundry spaces, home offices, kitchens and in this case above your TV. I couldn’t find a long one so I got two 80 by 23.5 by 3.8 cm shelves.

PICTURE FRAMES

To decorate above the shelf you can use framed family photos or printed pictures of your choice. I like matted frames they always stand out. You also want to alternate the height, I think it looks better that way.

STORAGE OPTIONS

Lastly you need storage of some sort for those extra throw pillows that are always on the floor.

Thank you, mounting the tv is a good idea especially if you own the home.
