When I first started working on this bedroom, it was totally empty and didn’t even have a bed or mattress. I was excited to work on it because it had this dark red wall that I totally loved unlike most Kenya bedroom designs. I knew it would make a good focal point and make the entire bedroom cozy and inviting. Check out this before photo to see what am talking about.
I bought this bed frame online and it was a total steal. Someone was selling it and I bought it for literally half the retail price. It came with the mattress which is orthopedic and quite sturdy. I started by installing curtain rods because the blinds were letting in way too much light and no one wants to wake up at 6 am on weekends. I got brown black out curtains. Next was to get bedding’s which I found at John Lewis and I know I have bragged a lot about those sham pillow covers in previous posts. I went for gray which is the common color that runs throughout entire house and wanted to keep it that way. Some Kenya bedroom designs require you to use mirrors if you don’t have two back windows.
I wanted to dress the walls to make the room look full. My initial plan was to put a mirror right above the bed but when I found this beach canvas picture I knew that I had to buy it( was cheap too). Right when you open the door you are drawn to the focal point (red wall). The picture of the beach seems so inviting and peaceful. It’s colors go really well with the grey bedding’s and a contrast to the red wall.
I knew that having a gallery wall of family photos on the side wall would make the space personal. The dark frames are a great contrast to the white wall and match the curtains.
The last thing I did was to get simple bedside tables and accessorize them. Because I didn’t want the room to be too feminine, I used bright colored flowers and a yellow clock for one bedside table, and kept the other side looking pretty simple by using a framed photo. I plan to do a follow up of this room sometime in the future. I never feel like am done designing a room.
