I was looking online for a good shelf and found the Ikea lerberg shelf in White. It finally arrived over the weekend and I couldn’t wait to decorate it and show you guys what I did with it. A very similar shelf is being sold by Organized Planet on Ngong Road. Click here to order.
After unboxing , it took about 15 mins to assemble.
Lately the metallics trend has been everywhere and you almost can’t miss a home without gold or silver decor. I went shopping for accessories and I was so drawn to all the metallics they had. The store I visited had lots..I mean lots of silver, mirrored frames, rose gold ceramics and gold accents. I decided to do something out of the box and mix the metals. To make the shelf stand out I followed these 3 tricks.
1. COLOR BALANCE
I started with a picture frame that has the colors I was working with as a central piece. In order to balance the colors on each shelf, I decided to alternate metallics in the same order (gold, rose gold then silver)
2. WEIGHT BALANCE
I also made sure that on every shelf I had one big item and a small one next to it. I also planned to have 3 items per shelf due to the space I had. If you have small accessories you can use books to lift them up.
3. TEXTURE BALANCE
Metals can be too overbearing and just look fake if overdone so I wanted to add some life to this shelf with potted plants. I got two and everything seemed more balanced. I also wanted colorful ceramic balls for the bottom shelf to give an illusion of texture.
